The role collects and analyses primary and secondary research data, interprets consumer patterns and market trends, and provides evidence-based recommendations to guide commercial, service, product and marketing decisions.Business intelligence, data visualisation and dashboard tools support the market-research function by organising, analysing and communicating research findings. The position’s primary outputs are research plans, consumer and market analyses, demand forecasts, insight reports and evidence-based recommendations.<h1>Key Responsibilities</h1><h2>1. Market and Consumer Research</h2><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Plan and undertake quantitative and qualitative market-research projects concerning customer behaviour, preferences, purchasing patterns, service needs and decision drivers.</li><li>Define research objectives, research questions, hypotheses, methodology, target populations and appropriate sampling approaches in consultation with relevant stakeholders.</li><li>Design or coordinate consumer surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups and other research instruments for online, telephone, in-person or in-store research.</li><li>Collect, consolidate and evaluate primary research data from consumers, customers and stakeholders, together with secondary information from industry, demographic, economic and competitor sources.</li><li>Analyse consumer patterns and preferences and identify the factors influencing customer demand, product or service uptake, retention and purchasing decisions.</li><li>Undertake customer segmentation, market sizing, competitor benchmarking and market-characteristics analysis for new and existing goods and services.</li><li>Research unmet customer needs and potential demand to identify viable market opportunities, target segments and areas for service or business growth.</li></ul><h2>2. Market Analysis, Forecasting and Evaluation</h2><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Interpret current market conditions and consumer trends and prepare evidence-based forecasts of future demand, customer behaviour and market opportunities.</li><li>Apply statistical and analytical techniques to survey results, customer feedback, sales data and external market information to test assumptions and draw reliable conclusions.</li><li>Assess the likely effect of pricing, product or service positioning, promotional activity and distribution channels on consumer demand and commercial outcomes.</li><li>Evaluate the performance of market, customer and commercial initiatives against defined research measures and recommend adjustments based on the findings.</li><li>Identify material research limitations, data-quality issues, bias and uncertainty, and clearly explain their effect on conclusions and recommendations.</li></ul><h2>3. Research Reporting and Business Insights</h2><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Prepare research plans, research summaries, market-analysis reports, customer-insight reports and executive presentations setting out methodology, findings, conclusions and practical recommendations.</li><li>Translate complex quantitative and qualitative findings into clear advice for technical and non-technical stakeholders.</li><li>Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and visual reports that communicate consumer behaviour, customer segmentation, market demand, market trends and research outcomes.</li><li>Integrate primary research findings with relevant customer, sales, product, service and financial information to provide a complete view of market performance and opportunity.</li><li>Maintain appropriate records of research methods, source data, assumptions, calculations and analytical decisions to support accuracy, transparency and repeatability.</li></ul><h2>4. Research-Based Commercial and Marketing Advice</h2><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Provide evidence-based advice on target markets, customer segments, product and service positioning, product mix, pricing, promotion, sales approaches and distribution channels.</li><li>Support management to evaluate market opportunities and make informed decisions about new or existing goods, services, locations and customer propositions.</li><li>Contribute research findings and consumer insights to commercial planning, marketing strategy, service design and business-development decisions.</li><li>Measure customer and market responses to implemented initiatives and recommend improvements based on the research findings.</li></ul><h2>5. Stakeholder and Research Project Management</h2><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Meet with internal clients and relevant external stakeholders to clarify research objectives, expected outputs, timeframes and decision-making requirements.</li><li>Manage assigned market-research projects from research brief through data collection, analysis, reporting and presentation of findings.</li><li>Liaise with third-party research, survey, panel, fieldwork or data providers and monitor the quality, scope and timeliness of contracted work.</li><li>Present research findings, respond to stakeholder questions and manage expectations regarding the interpretation and limitations of the evidence.</li><li>Recommend improvements to research methods, data collection, analytical processes and the communication of market and consumer insights.</li></ul><h1>Supporting Data and Reporting Activities</h1><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Clean, transform, validate and reconcile data from multiple sources where required for a defined market or consumer research purpose.</li><li>Build and refine datasets, measures and reporting logic required to analyse customer segments, demand, trends and market outcomes.</li><li>Maintain data confidentiality, research integrity, version control and appropriate quality-assurance procedures.</li><li>Use tools such as Power BI, Excel, SPSS, Q Research, Qualtrics, LimeSurvey or equivalent platforms to conduct and communicate research.</li></ul><h1>Key Outputs</h1><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Market-research plans and research briefs.</li><li>Survey instruments, interview guides and research data-collection frameworks.</li><li>Consumer behaviour, customer segmentation, market-demand and competitor-analysis reports.</li><li>Demand forecasts, trend analyses and market-opportunity assessments.</li><li>Research summaries, executive presentations, dashboards and evidence-based recommendations.</li><li>Post-initiative evaluations measuring customer and market response.</li></ul><h1>Qualifications and Experience</h1><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Marketing, Business, Statistics, Social Research, Commerce, Data Analytics or another closely related field with substantial study in research methods and statistical analysis.</li><li>Demonstrated professional experience undertaking market research, consumer research, customer insights or a closely related analytical function.</li><li>Experience designing or coordinating quantitative and qualitative research, including surveys, interviews, focus groups or comparable research methods.</li><li>Experience analysing consumer, customer, market and demand data and presenting findings to support commercial or strategic decisions.</li><li>Experience in customer segmentation, market sizing, demand forecasting, competitor analysis or evaluation research is highly regarded.</li><li>Strong capability in statistical analysis, Excel, Power BI and relevant survey or research platforms such as SPSS, Q Research, Qualtrics or LimeSurvey.</li></ul><h1>Core Capabilities</h1><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Market and consumer research methodology.</li><li>Quantitative and qualitative data analysis.</li><li>Consumer behaviour and market-trend interpretation.</li><li>Statistical reasoning, demand forecasting and evidence evaluation.</li><li>Research design, project management and stakeholder consultation.</li><li>Clear written reporting, visual communication and executive presentation.</li><li>Accuracy, confidentiality, professional judgement and attention to detail.</li></ul>
