Adrian Donald Hoten T/A Ruby's Café and Books is a busy café in the main street of Umina, Central Coast NSW, providing café food and drinks, as well as Philippino meals with Aussie breakfast and lunch meals. &nbsp;This role is ideal for a dedicated culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values collaboration and is committed to delivering outstanding food.&nbsp;Key responsibilities<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and kitchen hygiene.</li><li>Oversee daily kitchen operations including staff supervision, rostering, supplier management and regulatory compliance.</li><li>Control kitchen costs, including wages and food expenses to meet budget targets.</li><li>Train and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and professional work culture.</li></ul>Main Duties&nbsp;<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Lead and supervise food preparation, ensuring timely and consistent service.&nbsp;</li><li>Manage kitchen inventory, stock levels and minimise wastage.</li><li>Collaborate with management and front of house teams to enhance menu offerings and service quality.</li><li>Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain a clean organised kitchen.</li></ul>Skills &amp; Qualifications<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Chef in a similar hospitality setting.</li><li>Formal culinary training (Certificate IV in Commercial cookery or equivalent preferred).</li><li>Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Proven ability in menu planning, cost control, and kitchen management.</li><li>Passion for using fresh, seasonal and locally sources ingredients.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in baking and pastry is an advantage but not essential.</li></ul>This is an exciting opportunity to join a well- established café with a reputation for excellence. You will support daily food prep, maintain consistency in taste and presentation, and uphold hygiene and food safety. The role requires working efficiently in a fast-paced environment while supporting smooth kitchen operations and teamwork. <h3>Benefits</h3>Salary range: $76,600 - $78,000 per Annum + Superannuation. <h3>Task & responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established recipes, menus, and quality standards.&nbsp;</li><li>Ensure consistency in food taste, portioning, and presentation at all times.&nbsp;</li><li>Assist with daily food preparation, including chopping, marinating, and ingredient setup.&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in the kitchen.&nbsp;</li><li>Work efficiently during busy service periods while managing multiple orders.&nbsp;</li><li>Support smooth kitchen operations and coordinate with team members.&nbsp;</li><li>Follow instructions from senior chefs and contribute to a positive team environment.&nbsp;</li><li>Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and kept clean and organised.&nbsp;</li><li>Help maintain consistency in delivering a quality dining experience to customers.</li></ul> <h3>Qualification & experience</h3><ul><li>Minimum 1 year of experience working in a commercial kitchen or similar role.&nbsp;</li><li>Relevant qualification such as Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).&nbsp;</li><li>Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen operations.&nbsp;</li><li>Understanding of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and HACCP principles.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to follow recipes, menus, and instructions accurately.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.&nbsp;</li><li>Strong time management and organisational skills.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.&nbsp;</li><li>Good communication skills and a positive work attitude.</li></ul>
